When we first started visiting Donner in the mid to late 60's, my Dad used to be gruff and mumble about the fact that gas prices were about 5 cents more in the mountains, than in the SF Bay Area or Sacramento / Roseville. So that meant you paid about 25 to 30 cents a gallon in Truckee than in El Cerrito. It's still more expensive in the mountains, but base price has gone up a bit...
