Black swallowwort (Vincetoxicum nigrum)

Almost identical to pale swallowwort (dog-strangling vine), but not nearly as common in the Ottawa area. In fact, as far as is known, it occurs in only a few places. However, it also has the potential to spread aggressively like its counterpart. Black swallowwort has much darker flowers, compared to the paler maroon flowers of pale swallowwort.

It's very pretty for something with such an awful name.
