A local singer-songwriter who was driving a motorcycle Tuesday afternoon was struck by a car and remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

David Myers, 30, a member of the band Big Break, was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem following the collision, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
A nursing supervisor said late Tuesday that Myers was still being evaluated and did not provide a condition report.

According to friends, Myers was in surgery Tuesday night to repair damage to his spine and faces more surgery today.

The driver of a Saturn Ion, Rebecca Ann Peoples, was leaving the Hot Spot convenience store in the 5700 block of South Main Street and pulled into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.

Myers was heading northbound on South Main Street. He was wearing a helmet but was thrown several feet from the motorcycle, said Trooper W.P. Efird.

He was taken to the Rowan County airport and from there, transported by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The crash occurred at 3:45 p.m., sending passing traffic around the wreckage. The motorcycle hit the rear passenger side of the vehicle, causing severe damage to the car and the motorcycle. The motorcycle came to rest vertically against the car. Myers had no passenger on the bike.

Peoples received minor injuries and was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center as a precaution. A passenger in the car was not injured. Locke Fire Department, Rowan EMS and Rowan Rescue Squad responded. The N.C. Highway Patrol continues to investigate.

Officials with the NC Highway Patrol would not release the other names of those involved in the collision.

This story breaks my heart! Is David Myers going to be okay? Judging by this picture, it definitely looks like it wasn't his fault. Has he considered contacting an injury lawyer? That seems like the only way to ensure that justice is served. http://www.altizerlaw.com/automobile-wrecks/
