Is there hope for this relic of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad workhorse? Once
used to move lumber, spotted in disarray parked on a side-track behind the
Petaluma Depot - Visitors Center. This 1750HP EMD GP9 locomotive
is powered by a supercharged 2-cycle V16 diesel engine.
It would be great to see the rail line, from Marin County all the way up to
(and past) Healdsburg brought back into service. With the number of
commuters coming down from the northern counties to San Francisco
(and beyond), this should be a viable service much like how CalTrain
serves the entire SF Peninsula.
