One of Ireland's special sites, a spectacular collection of medieval buildings set on an outcrop of limestone. It is also known as St. Patrick's Rock and believed to be the place where St. Patrick converted the King of Munster in the 5th Century establishing the Rock's Christian heritage. While the Rock of Cashel started as a fortress and the seat of the Kings of Munster, it was turned over to the Bishops in 1101 becoming church property.
