Female English House Sparrow?

The birds are coming to our backyard feeder and it is so nice to be able to shoot pictures from our sunroom. The problem I have is with the double paned glass in the doors. I have to try to get them open for an unaffected shot. I looked through my "Birds of Oregon" book to find this particular bird, and the closest I could find is the American Tree Sparrow. At least, I am pretty sure it's a sparrow. :) Possibly a female house sparrow.

Two local bird experts have ID'd the bird as a English House Sparrow, a non-native variety. What throws me is the yellow stripe running back from the eye and the bi-colored bill. The colors of the bird vary from what I see online as English House Sparrows, but I am going to use that for the title.

Excellent detail and DOF.

After further review, I think your initial ID is correct. I was thrown by the "lack"of the black button on the chest. The bicolor bill certainly fits your ID of American Tree Sparrow.

The grey you are thinking of, Vern, would be found on the head of a male sparrow. Whatever, it is a very good capture of this bird.

Great set of eyebrows. You're lucky to have them come so close to the house and still be visible. There's a sparrow cheeping just the other side of my office wall but totally out of sight.

It does bear some resemblance to the Common sparrow, nice bright little bird.
