Crescent Venus Over Telescope Peak

Death Valley National Park view map

Very cool to catch Venus in a crescent phase as it was setting behind Telescope Peak,
in the Panamint Mountains west of the Badwater Salt Flat. There is no telescope on this
peak, and the name is per a reference given by the first person to describe the view from atop.
This peak is the highest point in Death Valley, rising 11,331 ft (3,454 m) from the floor of the
salt flat which also happens to be the lowest elevation (282 ft, 85.5 m) in the western hemisphere.

Keen eyes by Bryan brought a passing jet to my attention about 50 minutes earlier (below):

Great capture of a difficult subject, Sam. There's even detail in the foreground. V

Interesting shots and, I agree, very special view of Venus.

Excellent captures both, but I like the jet one in particular -- it appears that it's passing right under Venus. V.

this peak would be a fine viewing spot, yet also serve well as an anchor for the crescent Venus...

The clean simplicity is refreshing. You have brought back original images, Sam.
