School’s Out...

...Forever!

Out in the middle of nowhere,
but there must have been
something going on
back in the day!

This image is my favorite of all I've looked at today on PBase. I'm always fascinated by structures such as these and have such curiosity about their history. I like where you placed the school in the frame, and the beautiful sky behind it. There were people there, once, people with hopes and dreams and challenges and struggles, and now they're all gone. Scattered to the four winds.

Nice image of this old School house...
I've often wondered why certain structures were built, seminally out in no where, but often the surrounding ranches controlled their location. Townships and counties were often not the controlling factor but how far the kids had to travel from the ranches and smaller communities...
Growing up in a small community I attended a one room school until my fourth grade. It was a township school and all the outlaying schools were not consolidated until the county built a larger school to accommodate the many kids that would be attending. Bussing was a problem because many students lived far off a plowed or maintained county road. My grandfather, in the winter months, often hooked up the horse and slay to take us to the township line where a bus would pick us up. I grew up in Northern Michigan and stated school in 1947 at the age of five years old. We were poor dirt farmers and my Parents lived with my Grandparents until I was twelve years old.
