The municipal district of Blanes, the main town on the Costa Brava, is situated in the southernmost point of the province of Girona, next to the mouth of the river Tordera. The districts of Tordera and Lloret de Mar lie to the north of the province; Lloret de Mar to the northeast; Tordera, Malgrat de Mar and Palafolls to the west, separated by the river Tordera. The Mediterranean Sea forms the southern limit of the province. The municipal district of Blanes, covers an area of 1,784hectares. The most dominant peaks in the area include Vilar, which has an altitude of 269 metres, and Sant Joan, measuring 166 metres. The most important river is the Tordera, with a torrential rain flow pattern, and an inexhaustible supply of water.
