Great Egret (Ardea alba)

Georgia

This egret is taking a break from egg incubation duty
and using the time to preen and, in this case, have a drink of water.
Apparently their beaks do not close completely enough to entrap the water
so a portion of it flows out as they tilt their heads to swallow,
forming an arc of water beads as it does so.

Fascinating to see a Great Egret ?foraging from a tree trunk. A beautiful action photo with great light on the bird and water.
