Originally the Royal Exchange, it was built between 1769 and 1779 and is a notable example of 18th-century architecture in the city. The Liberator was Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1841 but was more famous for winning Catholic Emancipation in 1829. The 18th feet high statue was originally meant to stand outside the building.
