The Boyne Viaduct

It was a real 'pea souper' of a foggy morning as I drove to Drogheda.
However, there wasn't as much as I had expected alone the river.
This is the Boyne Viaduct, an eighteen-span limestone and iron bridge built in 1855 to facilitate the crossing of the Belfast to Dublin railway.
It was designed by Sir John MacNeill.

Nice moody shot with the lone sailboat moving along out there.

How nice that you managed to catch both the boat and the bird in this melancholy image!

There is something glorious in a fog, no matter what the subject, but a bridge is always special!

A wonderfully moody misty harbour scene. Very well done! V

grim yet gripping...I have crossed this bridge on the south-bound train-trip, but yours is a far more compelling view...V

For a brief moment when I saw this I thought of Turner. Then I realised that I was completely wrong because although this has the softness of many of Turner's works, it has a tranquillity that you won't find there.

This is the sort of day, and the sort of place that makes you feel the need to find a nice warm cafe and have a cup of cocoa while watching the misty rain descend over the river and the occasional boat making its way along it. I like the off centre arrangement of the bridge and the viaduct, complemented by the sailing boat being offset from the centre of the main bridge span as well.

A great feel to this picture almost timeless and a bridge I have never seen captured before. Super take. I would like to see the same picture in sepia or B&W.

And it has stood the test of time. Lovely old bridge and I like the mood from the fog. V.
