Hens' Teeth

Photo opportunities are about as scarce as a hen's teeth these days.
January's not even over and I'm pondering the wisdom of embarking on another Photo A Day project.
Anyway, our neighbours' hens came to the rescue as I was going back to work after lunch.
Their gentle clucking brings back memories of my childhood, when we kept hens which naturally became family pets.

I think it's always harder in winter; my PADs are notorious for going AWOL during that period. Part of it has to do with being over the process of remembering to take a shot each single day, and part of it has to do with fewer opportunities because of the decreased amount of light each day. You do have one advantage in that your winter falls at the start of the year so you have the "New Year" impetus to try to balance against the "limited opportunities, and I'm over it" effect. I'm shooting every day and ideally just once I'd like to get through an entire year without missing even a single day, but it's just impossible to find time each day to do the shot AND process it which is why I'm loading in batches. I think doing a PAD is still worthwhile but obviously you need to balance it against your own needs as well.

This is still a worthy entrant though; the colours are rich, the light is good and just as importantly there's a story behind it.

Nice capture of these chickens to the rescue. They even seem so say "here we are"! My daughter keeps a large flock of fowl of various breeds. Always a challenge to get a good photo! V

Finding pictures these days is a real challenge for a lot of us. But you did marvelously here!

bold adventurers making the best of the moment...their forage-a-day project looks on track too...current conditions can be tough for many of us though..

Great capture of this trio and I love your caption. I can never get photos of chickens. They're always moving around. V.

I understand what your saying. Other than taking multiple photos of the grand kids I have not taken any shots of interest so therefore taking part in the monthly challenge is impossible...PAD is way out of the question. Pleased you took this one though..they are pretty.

They are in a good formation!

There is something incredibly soothing about hens mooching about and cooing. As for January blues...got them in bucket loads here too - just think, we are 2/3 way through it.

I know exactly what you mean.
