The House Away From Home-Shirley

I will never forget the first time I drove across a lake in Minnesota;
something totally unheard of in Kansas. Since then, I've seen cities of
ice houses on the lakes, even vehicles as big as motor homes! You need
a good cold winter for it to be that safe and that we have had this winter.
I drove out on the ice today, to get this shot.

Yes it is just like the movie "Grumpy Old Men" out on the ice on some lakes.

When the ice is 1-2 feet thick, it's pretty safe driving. I'm the type that waits until there are virtual roads out on the lakes, some plowed into the snow on the lake buy some very heavy duty plows. I figure those are safe enough for me! Ice fishing is a blast, it's cozy in those ice houses.

Very nice shot, even with all the cold you have had there I would think twice about driving out there.

Cool shot! I'd be pretty nervous of doing that. I remember when I was in Saskatchewan being told that it was much easier for the trucks to travel in the winter in the north of the province (where the uranium is) than in the summer.

This an exotic view for me! I've seen this before only in TV, in a documentary that showed these fish shacks in the frozen lakes. It looks really cold brrrr! I do agree with Brad in that B&W suits perfectly to this image, it makes it even colder!

that is such a "cool" shot Shirley, fish shacks on a frozen lake, but the van driving toward it,, must be some catch, walleye, or the muskies,(sp?) B&W really needed and done well here,,
