Jan 4: Calm

There are pros and cons of living here. With much of the UK apparently underwater, being on a hill nearly 1000 feet above sea level, we’re unlikely to have a flood problem. On the other hand, being on a hill nearly 1000 feet above sea level, we get a real battering by strong winds. The weather pattern seems set for frequent storms one after the other, and today has been a day of calm before the next one slams in mid morning tomorrow. The forecast for next week is already looking pretty bad. When next we see a calm sunset, this palm, or possibly the engine house in the background, may not be here.

Of course, living in Cornwall with the odd Dracaena Palm tree you can always pretend you are somewhere tropical, and this picture certainly looks the part.

a nice image.....don't be too complacent about floods David;we are about 550ft up on the side of a hill, but our predecessors still managed to get the ground level behind the house higher than internal floor level and then a sump to fill up in between
