Maingon Bay

Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania

Waves coming directly from the south. it was a calm day, but even so, the waves were curling over in beautiful breakers with weed silhouetted as each wave reached its zenith. i love breakers with this colour. This was from the car-park from which one goes down to the Remarkable Cave. The rock over which these waves are sweeping is covered in bull kelp, a leathery form of seaweed with fronds that are metres long and wave in great forests. As a kid, I used to be somewhat fearful of these dense forests, imagining all sorts of oceanic nasties lurking in them. Thus i have remained a rather avid landlubber. it's too cold for a lot of swimming, anyway. Mind you, there are those who reveal in the water here. (I only view it from land.)
