At a rural village in the Sandan District of the Kompong Thom Province, Cambodia
Some of the young ladies wore turtlenecks and jackets because it was their "cool" season. We were hot.
As with our sponsored college young ladies we saw earlier in our trip (see previous photos), these high school young ladies are amazing in their dedication to their studies and their desire for a better life. It was such a great pleasure to interact with them in spite of our limited understanding of the Cambodian language and their limited understanding of the English language. They were engaging and friendly and undergo extreme sacrifice in order to pursue their education. Raising money for their education became much less abstract as we developed an in-person bond with them and appreciated how hard their "rode" is. All of these young ladies are dedicated to fulfilling their aspirations and dreams of going to college and having a career, such as in teaching or social work.
