Linlithgow Palace

Linlithgow, West Lothian

This huge, ruined Palace stands only five or six miles from my home.
It was built by King James I of Scotland around 1424 and was later the
birthplace of James V (1512) and his daughter Mary, Queen of Scots in 1542.
Much of the Palace was destroyed by the Duke of Cumberland's forces in 1746,
a reprisal for Bonnie Prince Charlie's visit there the previous year.
The Palace is said to be haunted by the ghost of Mary of Guise, the mother
of Mary, Queen of Scots.

A good view looking up at the palace. I keep meaning to go and explore there.
