IMG_1335 Siena Cathedral Zodiac.jpg

The Zodiac floor inlay in Siena Cathedral is one of the oldest marble inlays in the Cathedral., made ca. 1373.
The central part shows the "She-Wolf " suckling the infants Romulus and Remus.
Mythology says that 'Romulus founded Rome, and Remus, (or perhaps his son), founded Siena .

The zodiac itself, or sometimes a schemeatic of the heavens is shown in some Italian churches on the day the church was consecrated.
For those who are counting here, only 8 months are shown in the circular form, but the other four are in the corners,
two of which are visible in my picture.
