The Lincoln and Martin Luther King Memorials as seen from the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.
One of my favorite images of the National Mall because of the symbolism involved in the juxtaposition.
From Wikipedia:
The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863,
as a war measure during the American Civil War, to all segments of the Executive branch (including the Army and
Navy) of the United States. It proclaimed the freedom of slaves in the ten states that were still in rebellion, thus
applying to 3.1 million of the 4 million slaves in the U.S. at the time.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American clergyman, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American
Civil Rights Movement, which took place almost 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. He is best
known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience.
