An experiment I did for class today. The middle battery is about 19" from
the focal plane of the camera. The front battery is 2 1/2" in front of the
middle one. The back battery is 5 1/2" behind the middle battery.

25s f/22.0 at 50.0mm iso100 full exif

Depth of Field is not controlled by F-stops alone. Focal length and camera subject distance are equal partners. Further DoF is roughly 1/3 in front of the point of focus and 2/3s behind. That rear battery might be just out of range. Always a joy to see people working on their skills.

That surprised me also not sure if it is the camera or what. Will have to do the same experiment with my 5D KARK II and see what happens.

Interesting at f/22 that the 3rd battery is slightly out of focus. I hope you like your class!
