In Savute, we saw the six-pack and the ten-pack but we didn't see the 8-pack. Wild dogs keep ranging wider and wider until they meet another pack of wild dogs. At this point they mark and defend their boundaries but normally don't attack their neighbours. This ranging behaviour gets them into trouble if/when they encounter domestic dogs (in native villages) as the wild dogs are very susceptible to distemper and rabies. Their numbers have declined by more than 90% in the past 20 years because of this.
