This is an other worldly, high temperature geothermal area near the Lake Myvatn area. Here groundwater seeps down to a depth of 1000 m, where its temperature rises to above 200°C, and it finds its way upward as hot steam. It is important to stick to the marked paths or run the risk of burning your feet, either from the super heated water that turns into steam as it emerges from the ground or from acids found in the water. Either way, I decided to stick to the rules....this time!! Although there are no geysers here, you can see bubbling mud pools and pots, mud springs, natural steam vents, and other geological wonders.
