In the middle of June the “Medieval Days” are held in Briones, where the streets in the high part of the town, those between the former Arab walls, are decorated with garlands, tapestries and banners with the town’s coat of arms. The portals to these streets and the streets themselves become colourful sceneries for all the activities and professions that were carried out in the town in times gone by.
More than 400 people from Briones, dressed in traditional costumes, evoke far off times for two days. Convents, mansions, the Inquisition, weavers, embroiderers, blacksmiths, barrel-makers, carpenters, and a long etc., carry out their craftwork for the hundreds of visitors who honour Briones with their presence over these two days. These festivities began as a simple activity to help maintain the old customs and traditions of the town, but today the festivities go way beyond the local crafts, and have become some of the most popular celebrations in La Rioja.
