The Nevada Northern once ran uninterrupted through Shafter, crossing the track of the Western Pacific Railroad (later the Union Pacific Railroad). The crossing was behind the camera. At some point the other railroad removed the Nevada Northern track to eliminate a diamond crossing. Some of the rails that were removed were placed here.
