Dark

Another shot borrowed from the TV. We are quite safe, these are in NSW not Qld where I live
but still we Aussies feel for our own when each year we see this type of losses.
Today the fires have flared again and I have heard that the lovely Zig Zag Railway has been destroyed
near Lithgow and now the town is under threat.
Here is a link to the photos I took in 2007 after our Pbase Meet in Melbourne with Sheila and JW. He had been there the week before.

Oh my! Prayers going up for everyone who lives there. It is so heartbreaking to hear about these fires.

Very sad, hope the dark days will end ASAP.
Mairéad20-Oct-2013 22:22
Dark days indeed and there doesn't seem to be any let up.
LynnH20-Oct-2013 19:30
Oh how sad to learn about the railway. I feel so bad for everyone, and the firefighters who try in vain.
Frank Brault20-Oct-2013 17:09
A fine journalistic shot from your television. Glad that you are safe. So tough on those whose homes are exposed and on the firefighters. V
Carol Rollins20-Oct-2013 15:43
Wow, that says so much. Outstanding TV shot, Laine.
Mieke WA Minkjan20-Oct-2013 06:42
this is Australia too, devastating bush fires against the back drop of the beauty of the Australian country side
Janice Dunn20-Oct-2013 05:08
Very sad to see this. Terrible, terrible
wernere0120-Oct-2013 01:14
The quality of the tv-shot makes this even more frightening. Hope they will have it under control soon, and I´m glad you´re safe.
Bill Ewart Jr19-Oct-2013 23:37
That fire glow makes this look futile.
Ray :)19-Oct-2013 21:54
Definitely frightening. A real shame about the railway, but I read it will rise from the ashes. Also I see somebody lost a cherished 1958 bus, but in the end it is the lives that are really important.
Jackdad19-Oct-2013 19:17
Frightening scenes. Respect to those dedicated fire-fighters though.
Colin Storey19-Oct-2013 18:17
Glad to hear you are safe, hope all is well for all your country, sounds a great shame about the railway.
malcolm haslam19-Oct-2013 17:25
Very dark. Very scary.
Johnny JAG19-Oct-2013 17:25
Such a shame about the railway, I remeber that gallery well. Very sad for all those living in the area.

A terrible sight... glad to hear you are safe!
Coleen Perilloux Landry19-Oct-2013 16:34
Unhappy site considering all that goes with it. This is a photo for the history books.
Glad you are safe.
Ann...19-Oct-2013 13:11
Dreadful sight. I hope that the rains come, the wind stops, whatever is needed to quench these fires.
Good to know that you are safe.
Jeff Real19-Oct-2013 13:10
You have made a powerful statement ~V~
Faye White19-Oct-2013 11:35
Glad to know that you are safe.

Terrifying indeed. It's headline news here in Bordeaux.
joseantonio19-Oct-2013 10:23
Wow, that´s quite a dramatic image. Great to hear you are all right.V.
Yvonne19-Oct-2013 10:13
Terrible watching the News Bulletins knowing that the danger isn't over yet...
and sad to hear about the Zig Zag Railway, a good thing you made a gallery!
Guest 19-Oct-2013 10:12
The daily scenes on TV are tragic and heart-rending.
The fire-fighters are performing heroic deeds and our cash donations
hardly begin to deal with rebuilding lives of folks who have lost everything.

Another sorrowful image.
