The old white stallion has been banished from contact with most of the herd; the high ranking males defeated him and took his mares. But, he will still get harassed by the occasional herd stallion that recognizes his former status. He could likely beat this red male in a fight. However, he just lacks the stamina and willpower to keep a herd of mares.
