A Morning in Gulfport (1096)

Gulfport, FL

This is a very cool historical marker placed on the pier overlooking the water.
The plexiglass sketch had this historical plaque next to it:

"Before the were roads and bridges to this isolated settlement, the steamboat, Mary Disston brought supplies, mail, and passengers to the town.
In 1892 it caught fire while docked and was pushed into the bay to save the pier.
It burned to the waterline and sank about 259 yards beyond this image.
The scattered remains of the vessel, buried beneath the sand and sediment, were identified in a 1998 underwater archeological survey."

This plexiglass sign really helped give a sense of life from another era with the steamboat image and water all around your viewing angle. Very cool.
