This poor soul suffers from Sandstone Deprivation Syndrome (SDS). It is the result of having been exposed to the beauty and awesomeness of sandstone formations around Moab, Utah and then being forced to be away from said formations for more than a few days. For reasons not yet understood, the sandstone landscape of Moab exerts a strong and unwavering force on certain personality types. For them, there is never enough sandstone exposure. The victim shown here has one of the worst cases of SDS on record. He was photographed only a few days after having arrived home from a trip to Utah (Moab was the major destination), and already he looks like a zombie.
The medical profession has identified only two treatment programs that relieve the sufferer from this horror. One program consists of massive doses of sedatives (industrial-grade Valium is the preferred medication); the other program is VCM ("vicious circle method"), which is, sadly enough, additional exposure to Moabian sandstone. Medical institutions worldwide are desperately searching for a cure; to date the situation does not look promising.
