The journey begins on the shores of Canal Beagle (the Beagle Channel) in far southern Argentina. The channel runs east-west for several hundred kilometres, channeling freezing sub-antarctic winds along it.
This photo was taken in Argentina but the distant snow-capped peaks (this is high summer) are Cordillera Darwin in Chile.
The area is full of reminders of the journey of the Beagle, with Captain Fitzroy and Charles Darwin on board, so many years ago.
