Northernmost grade crossing of the Cane Creek Branch

view map

This looks west from Frontage Road, just east of Crescent Junction, Utah. The grade crossing is the northernmost one of Union Pacific’s Cane Creek Branch. The branch joins the main line 0.3 miles to the right. The southernmost grade crossing is at the potash mine at Potash. An eastbound UP train is in the background.

Frontage Road used to be the highway connecting Green River, Utah with Grand Junction, Colorado. I believe it was signed as US 6 and US 50. Following the construction of Interstate 70, the federal highway designations were shifted to the interstate. Frontage Road is now unsigned and unmaintained but continues to serve local interests.
