The spectacular emblematic bird of the Andean cloud forest, seen at the lek maintained by Angel Paz in his marvelous birding refuge. We walked down a slippery trail in the dark to get to the blind before 6 am, where we could hope to get a full view of at least one Cock-of-the-Rock, as I got this one, along with partial views of up to a dozen males flitting through the trees and calling raucously as they competed to impress a female. Also viewing: our host Jorge Cruz, his wife Irina, and my photography buddies Yamil Saenz, Dan Suzio, and Gary Weller.
