I can sew.
Nowadays I might struggle to find the time to sew on a loose button but when I first left college, I did a lot of sewing.
I'd spend my lunch hour in the fabric department of Dearey's drapery shop, now sadly closed, pouring over patterns and looking at materials.
I made Laura Ashley style dresses and skirts. I mastered the art of inserting zips, making buttonholes, and 'invisible hemming'.
Then, the price of materials went up while at the same time, high street fashion meant I could buy clothes for less than I could make them.

ps I didn't make this old Log Cabin quilt -it's a family heirloom.

Oh, me too. I made all of my clothes for senior high school and college days. Now I only 'MEND' and never create. :)

You can sew a whole lot more than I can! Nice image.

The quilt was a great choice for this still life. Things have certainly changed over the last several decades.

I did a lot of sewing too. I used to make my clothes and most of my children's clothes as well. I was always up-to-date with sewing machines. Now, the old machine sits in a cupboard and I only get it out if I really have to do a repair... I also used to knit a lot too. not now...

wonderfully composed about the demise of a trade and the easy-going of nowadays fashion

What a wonderful still life this is! I used to sew when my children were little. A yard or two of fabric could make a little dress for not much money. I wish I had saved some of the things I made for them. V

I used to sew, knit and crochet but then I got my first computer and then a camera...the rest they say is history...

Great talent! My grandma was a dressmaker, but I did not inherit this skill. Wonderful composition and colors, Mairead. V.

Beautifully arranged memorabilia! I like to sew too and could have written your paragraph! I have a shirt that has been waiting for button replacement for a month! V

I used to build my own computer systems, then stopped for a while for the same reason; it's hard to justify the time if you can get ready made for less. The latest one is a home brew, but more because I wanted it just so... as I imagine is the case with anything that you sew. (Time permitting, as always.)
You've chosen a nice colourful array of fabric and thread for this one, and have lit it well.

Lovely still life of your sewing materials. It may be cheaper to buy premade but it will never beat homemade. V.
