Someone made the mistake of trying to debate with the "All-American" Johnny Olympic
and gets an earful in return :-)
This image was shot with a Canon Rebel, otherwise known as the 300D or
the Canon Kiss in other parts of the world.
The original Rebel was a 6.3mp Digital SLR announced in 2003 and it
caused somewhat of a revolution as it was the first DSLR under $1000.
In other words, it was the DSLR for the masses.
The camera shares the same sensor as the Canon 10D, which had a much
higher quality body and extra features, most of which can be unlocked on the 300d by
an unofficial hack.
Virtues of the camera are nice skin tones, and smooth tonality. Negatives are
(you guessed it) noise at higher iso's and slow operation.
Back in the early 2000's, Canon was on a roll and a major innovator in the Digital SLR
scene. Back then, it seemed they could do no wrong.
In the past few years, they have seemingly been "taking it slow" using some variation
of their 18-22mp sensors in every DSLR since the 5D Mark II while the competition
raised the stakes with cameras such as the Nikon D800 with its 36 monstrous megapixels.
Although I'm not a brand loyalist, I will say this, and again, borrowing from the late great
Jim Croce:
"You don't tug on Superman's cape,
You don't spit in the wind,
You don't TELL the 'All-American' Johnny Olympic anything he don't know,
and...
You never, EVER count out Canon!" :-)
I fully expect the camera giant to awaken soon with some mind-blowing new cameras.
