Day #15

I love the internet...

Yes... early on, I would have never thought I would say this!

I was initially slow to catch onto the new technology and it was not until it impacted my photography that I realized what an exciting time it was.
I am still a slow learner but have come to appreciate the information that is at the tips of my fingers
and I especially like the fact that the world is now a smaller place as we connect with people from around the world.

Who knew that I could be posting food photos and have a Michelin star chef looking at them from Germany?
And then to find out he was featured in a Gourmet magazine just to the right of my desk on a shelf with my collection of Gourmet magazines dating from the mid 1960's.
And when he told me the date, I pulled the issue and there beginning on page 30 was none other than Boris, from Pbase,
featured in an article on California cuisine at "The Dining Room" of the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel, California.

Of course when the article was written, I had not begun digital photography nor did I ever in my wildest dreams think that I would ever "virtually meet" anyone
written about in that magazine let alone a Michelin star chef who was described as a leading player in contemporary German cuisine.

Caroline Bates, who wrote the article said: "There are many reasons for a celebratory dinner in The Dining Room,
but the one that attracted us was a new chef from Germany, who has brought a breath of fresh air to a once stuffy and predictable French-Continental kitchen."

And she also says... "He has fallen in love with California's year-round cornucopia of vegetables and plays with them like a painter slapping dabs of color on a surface."

She also said that Boris "finds poetry in the pedestrian potato".

So here I sit, 22 years later with the ability to e-mail Boris as well as see his photos through this magical medium called the internet and Pbase and I can upload a photo to share within minutes of contact.
And not only that, I can visually follow in his footsteps and see the things he loves and that speak to him through his photography.

And who would have thought that Gourmet magazine would ever go out of business?
Communications are changing how we live and they are changing the market place.

In today's electronic age, there is no telling where our photos and our friendships may lead us.

Thanks Fay for sharing this here, it has been a great time in my life and you are a part of it, because of your appreciation and passion. The internet is the perfect tool for finding people like you, but also in jeopardy because of monitoring and fraud! BV.

What a small world it is and the internet is making it smaller!
A wonderful piece of writing too.

That is so good. Bravo Fay for still having your Gourmet collection. And yes, what would we be doing now if we didn't have the internet?
