The Southern Cross (Crux) and pointers are well known to southern observers and feature
prominently on the Australian flag. The pointers can be used as a guide in the night sky to
locate the Southern Cross which is good for new observers to this part of the sky. Once
identified though they are easy to find. Note the red nebulosity in the bottom right hand
corner which is also known as the 'Running Chicken Nebula' (for reasons that can only be
known to those who named the object).
