When it rains or snow melts in the drainage basin of the Little Colorado River, muddy water cascades over 185 foot high Grand Falls in a spectacular show of power. Depicted here is flow after several days of heavy rainfall during September of 2013. This image was taken on September 12, 2013 when the water flow was approximately 1250 cubic feet per second. Because of the color of the muddy water this is often referred to as "Chocolate Falls."
