Day #9

Meeting New Friends

Is it just me... or does photography tend to bring people together?

That is one of the things I miss about nursing... I got to meet new people every day that I worked and many times heard about their lives... their story, if you will.

I like people!

And as a nurse it is necessary to develop their trust early on
so that they will feel comfortable sharing some of the most intimate personal things about their lives on their road to seeking treatment and recovery.
It is not easy being a patient and most of the time they are at their most vulnerable and reach out for support through their illness.

So as I now wander through life with a camera in hand, I often times strike up a conversation with a complete stranger.
And so it was the day I took my camera to Archinal Camera Repair in Richardson, Texas.

I was having shutter button issues... probably had just been pressed a few too many times.
Funny how that happens.

The repair was completed by the following day and I went in to pick up my camera.
And as so often happens, I struck up a conversation with Robert and somehow "my Lucy" became part of the conversation.
Now for those of you who are not familiar with my "special friend" Lucy, check out her gallery:

Yes... she is a mannequin and we are having a fun time wandering the metroplex together.

When Robert heard about Lucy... he became ecstatic and said I needed to meet Lola! Lola?
And with that he opens the door at the back of the shop which leads to his lighting studio and there, in the corner, stands Lola!
What a woman!

OK... now this is the funny part. Ya know how I took my 40D for repair?
Well... guess what... Lola is a 40D too!!!!!!!!

Before I knew it, Robert was hauling her over to the backdrop and flipping on the portrait lights so I could better see her,
and since I just had my camera repaired I figured I better try out that shutter button!
And the good news is... it works.
I wasn't quite sure if I had gotten the shot simply because I was laughing so hard throughout this entire scenario.

Honestly... all I wanted to do was go pay my money and pick up my camera.

So we go back to the shop and then Robert says...
"See that white truck out there? That's my truck. I've got an idea.
How about if when the weather gets cooler we put Lucy and Lola in the back of the truck and take them out for a photo shoot!"

More laughter and a plan is hatched. This is just too crazy!
And you know I am up for crazy!
And yes, I will give Robert a call in the cooler weather and make a date for a photo shoot.

I can't wait to tell Lucy!

This story is toooo funny!!! OMG both 40Ds too. I almost thought Robert was mannequin too but thought the pose holding a pen was too ridiculous. Now this is one photo shoot I want to see results from!!!!!!!!! So when did Lucy take up photography?~ :)
