September 5

Sugar Land, Texas

I'm a lazy gardener. I try to buy carefree plants.
But I'm limited because I need plants that can take our extreme heat and blazing hot sun.
Pride of Barbados likes this weather, but it can't take a freeze.
It is rated for Zone 9 climate and I live in Zone 8.
Once every few years, we get a couple nights in the teens(F.) and bam...
everyone's tropicals die.
I learned this the hard way, and now I am more selective about what I plant in the garden.
So, I admire my neighbor's Pride of Barbados instead of growing my own.

#5 for the ALL ABOUT ME challenge for September.

That's a really colourful plant. I'm looking for easy options in the garden too.

Amazing combination of colors! Fantastic light on these perky flowers. I had to do a lot of experimenting for my garden because of having so many trees and little direct sun.

Me too on the lazy. I tend to plant in native to here plants that come back every year. Then all I have to do is keep them thinned. :) We are zone 6a/5b give or take a bit.

Love the colours in this shot!~

So colorful, wonderful capture. I used to have a garden neigborhood route to take pictures and everyone liked it when I took the pictures and then they gave me plants for my garden.

I love the bright, vibrant colors. This is very tropical looking with its long stamens. Wonderful capture. V.

This is a gorgeous shot. When I first joined PBase, I climbed a fence in New Orleans to get a Pride of Barbados shot, then I didn't know how to get out of that yard....

Beautiful colors and such a fascinating complex bloom. "V"
We don't garden at all, because we kill everything we touch. :(

What a brilliant image this is Lynn - stuning colours and shapes - and good to share with your neighbour. Should that be: Them sharing with you?

I see these at the Dallas Arboretum and they make such a dramatic display and the butterflies like them too!
