Dear Classmates,

All of you have either served on our previous reunion committees or have expressed an interest in helping with our 50th reunion. Some of you have already been helping me locate classmates who have fallen off the grid or retired and changed their mailing and email addresses.

I want you to be the first to know that we have selected a date and location for the 50th Reunion of OHS Class of '64. It will be Saturday August 9, 2014 from 12 Noon to 4:30 PM at the Lake Chalet Bar & Grill in the Gondola Room. It's a beautiful location right on Lake Merritt, and our private room has great views of the lake. You can see photos of it here:

We will have a wonderful buffet lunch with three choices of entrees (chicken, fish, & a vegetarian pasta) with something to satisfy everyone's tastes (and Randy won't have to work his butt off cooking for us this time.) The meal will include three side dishes, three dessert choices and all non-alcoholic beverages (coffee, ice tea, and sodas). There will be a no-host bar for those who want "adult" beverages.

I will be sending out a "Save the Date" to everyone for whom I have an email address in the next few days. We will see how many bounce back and then we'll have our work cut out for us tracking down those classmates who changed email addresses since our last reunion. Please let me know if you are willing to take some of them and try to track them down.

We will also need volunteers to contact local newspapers and radio stations to see if we can get a free listing to promote the event and find lost classmates.

Once the invitation goes out -- hopefully by August 1st of this year, it will be appreciated if you can send in your checks as soon as possible. We wound up with very little money in our reunion account and Mun Wah (Gary Lee,) Roy Owens, Toni Marshall Adams and I have had to front quite a bit of money to reserve the location. We are also going to be asking classmates who can afford to, to donate a little something extra so that we will have a fund available for classmates who would not be able to come without some assistance from us -- and if we wind up with any extra money we will donate it to either an OHS Scholarship Fund or the OHS Alumni Association. We are trying to keep costs down so we will have an "Earlybird" rate of $64 (for class of '64) per person if we receive reservations and checks before January 31, 2014. After that the rate will go up to $75 per person.

Looking forward to working with you all to make this the best reunion yet. Let me know if there is anything special that you would like to volunteer for (Decorations, Memorabilia Table, Finding lost classmates, Publicity, etc.) I am hoping that Elliott Lowe will once again contribute his considerable photographic skills for this event.

There has been some concerns voiced in this group about the class of 1964's 50th reunion. We want everyone from the OHS class of '64 who wants to attend our 50th reunion to feel welcome. We have reserved the Gondola room which can accommodate up to 100 seated guest with a dance & band area 120 people without a dance floor & band area, but we can expand into other areas if we go over those totals. We will need to know ASAP to notify the Lake Chalet that additional space will be required. Your RSVP will be fully counted once we have received your check. Please mail us your check for $64 per person (up to January 31st, 2014 - $75 per person after that date.)
