A few days before we left on our road trip I made up some whisky recipes and left them for the duration. One of the fun things of making whisky is, of course, drinking whisky. This time I did two recipes that I have done fairly often and two new recipes. I also bought a little screen coffee filter to hold the filter papers which worked quite well. So I worked up these four and found to my great pleasure that the two new recipes were very nice. One thing I need to find is a source of a good neutral spirit. The "Everclear" type PGA (pure grain alcohol) tends to have a grainy flavor which I want to get rid of. We talked to a distillery in Portland that makes this, but they only sell to other licensed distilleries. Now I have to do some homework. Don't get me wrong, however, the stuff I am making now is pretty good. Life is good! |
