My grandfather John Theodore Boyd and grandmother Maude LaMunion Boyd moved to Ohio, Illinois in 1924 with their children John Milne Cary Boyd, age 12, (my father), Beatrice Nona Boyd, age 9, and Norma Georgia Boyd, age 5. My grandfather was editor of The Ohio Herald and my grandmother, father and aunts helped out at the paper setting type and other tasks. My grandfather passed away in 1937 (his obituary is located at http://www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/94457354 ) and his family continued with the newspaper until World War II broke out in 1941. My father joined the U. S. Coast Guard and my aunt Norma joined the U. S. Marine Corps and I believe neither of them returned to Ohio after the war ended except for visits. Beatrice moved to a larger town in central Illinois to teach school and my grandmother shut the newspaper down and moved back to Michigan where she grew up and had family members. I visited Ohio in the early 1960's where I got to meet some of my father's friends (McDonald and Enright) that he grew up with and again in 1970 after I served 4 years active duty in the U. S. Coast Guard and before I started junior college. I will scan photos from my visits in the early 1960's and 1970 and post them on this site in the future.
