This was our second tire related maintenance "Aw SH&T" of the trip. This time the tire blew out while we were traveling 80 mph on I-84 just a few miles into Idaho from Oregon. Steering is interesting when this happens. Fortunately we easily got over to the right shoulder and safely off the highway. Also fortunately, there was cell phone coverage in this area. We called AAA and they had someone out to help change the tire in about 45 minutes. One thing about the design of our 2012 Honda Odyssey is that the mini spare is under the floor boards in front of the second seat. It is very inconvenient to take out and put back in. My old Caravan had it suspended under the rear of the car and it was very easy to get to. Anyway, we got to Boise and found that there were three Discount Tire shops in the area, so getting the tire replaced would not be a problem.

My son wants to learn a few things with car maintenance. My tires really need to be changed out. Maybe my husband can teach him how to do it and they can get it done for me this weekend.http://www.londontiresales.ca/

At the start of a road trip, get to the van first and bolt the spare to the floor.

Keeping a full size spare would be a good idea except that an unnamed participant in our road trips usually fills up the van with "stuff."

Wow---a blowout at 80mph?! Scary. Glad no one got hurt.
I promise not to tell anyone that you were driving above the speed limit.
The mini-spare of my Toyota Sienna is located under a second-row seat.
I keep a full-size spare in the seat well at rear. All I need to get at it is a screwdriver.
