Thompson's Beach, like many other areas along the Delaware Bay was once a resort town located on the edge of the Delaware Bay in Maurice River Township. At one time there were about 200 buildings here, now there's only this fireplace, piles of rubble, and the Delaware Bay menacingly close. The last residents (2 resident families as well as some summer residents) apparently were forced to leave in 1998 when the township didn't want to maintain the road any longer. After they left, the last 14 buildings were torn down. The road is walkable at low tide, but the tide comes in lightning fast and the entire road is under water at high tide.
