Puente del Mar with statues of San Pascual and the Virgin Mary.Valencia grew alongside the river Turia. After the devastating flood of 1957 which led to the death of 81 people, it was decided living alongside the river had become too great a risk and it was diverted southwards along a new course that skirts the city.Today, the Turia’s old course is the largest urban garden in Spain. Ironically this image makes it look like the river is still there but the water you see is just a man made pond.
