Walter “Snowy” Farr, a
Cambridge local, collected money for many charities (such as
the Cambridgeshire Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted,
and the Guide Dogs for the Blind) at this spot in the Cambridge
Market Square. He was awarded an MBE, in recognition of his
efforts, in 1995. Five years after he died (in 2007), a sculpture
which was designed by Gary Webb was erected in his memory.
