It was about an hour bus ride from Passo Sella to San Cristina, located in the scenic Val Gardena. This valley is very popular destination in the Dolomites and I can see why: quaint towns, fantastic scenery, and easy access to a multitude of hikes. And Norah's favorite thing? The friendly gato we met outside our bed and breakfast - she talked about this cat the rest of our trip.

A nice thing about the accommodations in Italy is that they prominently display their star rating (one to four), so it helps when choosing lodging at random. We ended up at the lovely Le Chalet (two stars). The price was reasonable (35 euro per person for the room and breakfast, which was quite good), the hostess was very friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and comfortable. We all enjoyed a hot shower, went shopping at the supermarket (something I always love to do in a foreign country), had dinner, and ended the night by watching a nature show on volcanoes in the big comfy bed. Great stay!
