Click beetle (Elateridae)

Larose Forest

Click beetles are so named because of the clicking sound they make when they flip over from lying on their backs. It is a very audible click too, as I discovered when I scooped up a click beetle, which immediately flopped onto its back, playing dead, and then righted itself with a loud click!
