When a man mentioned he saw a turtle on the trail, I assumed it was probably a Diamondback Terrapin since we were so close to salt water. Alas, a beautiful Box Turtle was what I found. There are some freshwater ponds among the sand dunes. But the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and being surrounded by vast salt marsh amazed me. I've never seen Box Turtles in this environment.
