Changing Water to Gorgeous Colors!-Shirley
by Shirley Haden

Avalanche River National Glacier Park

Glacial water contains tiny bits of rock and minerals called "rock flour" in
suspension from the grinding action of the glacier. Those rock particles refract
the green spectrum of the sun's light so it appears green.

Note: We were told that this beautiful river along with all the surrounding lakes,
will soon loose their pretty colors because of global warming. The rate the glaciers
are melting even the largest of the mountain glaciers will be gone. I think the
guide on our boat tour said within 20 years these colors will have vanished along
with the glaciers. :o(

This is exquisite - beautiful and then some! I think of Emerald Lake, not far from Banff, which is this same turquoise. If indeed we lose these amazing colors, we will be much the poorer for it.

aja, that makes a lot of sense that the white sands in the ocean would make the waters this color. It would work very similarly wouldn't it. The white sand and the waves oxygenating the water to make it look like you just have to jump in! This water is super cold though. ha!

This is just gorgeous! Nice diagonal composition, too. The river leads to a brilliant blue sky, as well. What's not to like? ;-)

I'll have to look up the state the park is in, but it reminds me of Alaska's crazy-blue glaciers. In Hawaii, we have beautiful waters due to the sun/white sand under the water. One of the challenges, you'll see what I mean.
